Every birthday or holiday, without fail, my dad only has one simple request – photos of the kids. He’s totally appreciate just a stack of pictures, but I like to put my creative skills to the test to come up with photo filled gifts for him. Last Father’s Day, my dad received a DIY Photo Clock and the year before I made him a DIY Photo Canvas. This year is my favorite creation yet! Learn how to make a distressed grandkid photo board below. You can change the wording to say anything you’d like and it’s super easy with a cutting machine like the Cricut Explore! Oh how I love my Cricut!
Materials
Wooden Board
White & Black Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Adhesive Vinyl
Cricut Explore

Instructions: Paint the board with several coats of white acrylic paint, allowing to thoroughly dry between coats. You can also use white spray paint instead. Next, cut the word “GRANDKIDS” out of adhesive vinyl using a Cricut Explore machine (or you can freehand it with stencils and scissors). Your font size and style will depend on how large your board is. Measure your board and make sure the font size and style you choose will fit, allowing a few inches of free space at the bottom. Remove the sticky backing from the vinyl letters and attach to the board, on top of the white paint. Make sure you press down firmly to get a good seal around the edges, so paint won’t seep through. Next, paint the entire board and vinyl letters with 2-3 coats of black acrylic paint. Allow to thoroughly dry before peeling off stickers to reveal the white painted letters underneath. Distress the board and edges using medium grit sandpaper. Once distressed, attach binder clips along the bottom of the board with hot glue. Place photos inside the binder clips and display!
